Six shapes: Text-based photographs (2025) is a small 3-color snake book by Sofie Hodara and Mary Banas. The book documents the visual system for six shapes, an extended reality website that examines how we construct patterns and meaning from randomness. It features a digital wayfinding system that navigates a collaborative archive of text-based photographs. The images, arranged in a grid, appear as spinning signs, eerily floating in 3D space.

On a whim, artists and designers Sofie and Mary compiled a folder of random images. Noticing unintended thematic connections, Sofie categorized them into six groups: Domestic Finds, From Windows, Letterpress Blocks, Street Shots, Screen Shots, and Book Billboards. Each image appears as a virtual signpost in the 3D space, with its shape corresponding to its category.
